Buying from the Online Apple Store (Philippines) [UPDATED 2014]
A few months back, Apple finally allowed Philippine Apple users to purchase music and movies through the iTunes store. I also found out that they are finally selling the Apple TV to Filipinos through the Online Apple Store (Philippines). I have always been interested in the Apple TV but the only way I knew how to purchase it before was through the grey market.
The online store itself was very easy to go through. I also liked the fact that they had date estimates as to when you’d be getting your order. I was able to use my existing Apple ID which eliminated the step of having to enter my address and credit card information.
I made the purchase on a Sunday night so they could process the order first thing Monday morning and I could ideally get the unit the same week. True enough, the next morning, my order was processed and shipped. The Online Apple Store’s choice courier was DHL. I was initially concerned that I would have to deal with Philippine Customs but the billing I got through email said that all duties and taxes are paid for.
I closely monitored the shipping like a stalker every few hours. I watched as the package was shipped from Singapore to Hong Kong, then Hong Kong to the Philippines. It was quite entertaining, actually. You will notice most of the wait was when the package arrived with Philippine Customs.
My package was delivered on the morning of October 4th. The DHL guy was very friendly and overall, I had a good experience. If you’re shipping to the Philippines, anticipate quite a bit of waiting for Customs to clear your package. I would definitely love to buy from the Online Apple Store again.
Update: January 14, 2014
Apple recently had an online store sale called Red Friday last January 10 and it was definitely a great time to buy! Views for this post were up that day so a lot of you were interested.
I bought myself the Airport extreme which I got at 1,000PHP off. Great deal and I’ve been wanting to get this router for some time.
As of posting, the router has already arrived in the Philippines but has stopped at Customs for clearing. I am not expecting it to arrive soon, especially with the backlash that’s happening right now. Will update you guys as soon as something happens!
Update: January 24, 2014
Today is the day (according to Apple)! The package took SO LONG at customs and was held by DHL for a few days I had almost forgotten about it.
I got a fancy new box this time around and a text message from Apple! The delivery actually came about one or two minutes before I received the SMS. I also got a second SMS saying that the package had already been delivered.
See below for some photos of the package and item.
And also the journey of the package:
I hope everyone who ordered last Red Friday has already received their package!Tags: apple, asia, dhl, online, philippines, shopping
