Buying from the Online Apple Store (Philippines) [UPDATED 2014]

by Lindsey on October 7, 2012 · Reviews, Tech

A few months back, Apple finally allowed Philippine Apple users to purchase music and movies through the iTunes store. I also found out that they are finally selling the Apple TV to Filipinos through the Online Apple Store (Philippines). I have always been interested in the Apple TV but the only way I knew how to purchase it before was through the grey market.

The online store itself was very easy to go through. I also liked the fact that they had date estimates as to when you’d be getting your order. I was able to use my existing Apple ID which eliminated the step of having to enter my address and credit card information.

I made the purchase on a Sunday night so they could process the order first thing Monday morning and I could ideally get the unit the same week. True enough, the next morning, my order was processed and shipped. The Online Apple Store’s choice courier was DHL. I was initially concerned that I would have to deal with Philippine Customs but the billing I got through email said that all duties and taxes are paid for.

I closely monitored the shipping like a stalker every few hours. I watched as the package was shipped from Singapore to Hong Kong, then Hong Kong to the Philippines. It was quite entertaining, actually. You will notice most of the wait was when the package arrived with Philippine Customs.

My package was delivered on the morning of October 4th. The DHL guy was very friendly and overall, I had a good experience. If you’re shipping to the Philippines, anticipate quite a bit of waiting for Customs to clear your package. I would definitely love to buy from the Online Apple Store again.

Update: January 14, 2014

Apple recently had an online store sale calledΒ Red FridayΒ last January 10 and it was definitely a great time to buy! Views for this post were up that day so a lot of you were interested.

I bought myself the Airport extreme which I got at 1,000PHP off. Great deal and I’ve been wanting to get this router for some time.

As of posting, the router has already arrived in the Philippines but has stopped at Customs for clearing. I am not expecting it to arrive soon, especially with the backlash that’s happening right now. Will update you guys as soon as something happens!

Update: January 24, 2014

Today is the day (according to Apple)!Β The package took SO LONG at customs and was held by DHL for a few days I had almost forgotten about it.

I got a fancy new box this time around and a text message from Apple! The delivery actually came about one or two minutes before I received the SMS. I also got a second SMS saying that the package had already been delivered.

See below for some photos of the package and item.

I hope everyone who ordered last Red Friday has already received their package!

    Hi Lindsey,

Thanks for your post, this assured me to order from the Apple store. I have been scouting the net for user experiences and your post hit the mark.

Am very much interested to order a Customized Macbook from the Apple Online Store but apprehensive because I paid hefty customs tax for my previous non-apple store online orders.

Although the Apple store says “Prices displayed are inclusive of all taxes and duties but exclusive of delivery charges (unless otherwise indicated).” – may I ask the following?

    1. Did you pay anything else (aside from the price of the item at the Apple store) like customs tax or delivery fees?
    2. Did you have any other extra charges in your card due to the online purchase?

Hoping very much in advance for your response. πŸ™‚

    1. Lindsey says:

      Hi Cyril!

To answer your questions: I did not pay anything else aside from the 4,990PHP. No other charges were made to my credit card. The Apple store was very transparent with the delivery and they did deliver in 5 days just like they said. I hope you have a good experience with them!

  2. Cyril says:

Wow, that’s such a relief! Now I can proceed to plan for my custom Macbook to be bought from Apple’s store.

Thank you so much for this. πŸ™‚

  3. Anna says:

Hi, i tried to call the apple store number but i can’t get through. It says invalid number. I was hesitant to order because i can’t contact them. Is this something i shouldn’t worry about? Have you contacted them before when you ourchased online? Thanks

    1. Lindsey says:

      Hi Anna!

I had called Apple’s 1800 number before because I dropped my iPad (broken screen and all!) but unfortunately, you can only call that number from a PLDT line. I had to go to a neighbor to use their phone. Let me know if you still encounter any trouble.

      1. Anna says:

Thanks alot. But i can place my order without calling the number right? Is itnsafe to buy ipod online through apple store? Can’t buy anywhere due to availability. Thanks

        1. Lindsey says:

Yes, all you need is a credit card to place an order online. Good luck!

  4. Kevin says:

    Hi Lindsey,

I was wondering, have you made any purchases recently at the store? It’s been almost a year now since you purchased your Apple TV and I was wondering if the experience would be the same as that of last year. I’m planning to purchase the new MacBook Air. Thanks!

    1. Lindsey says:

      Hi Kevin,

I have not made any purchases in the online store recently. I was about to order a DisplayPort adapter but I wouldn’t have liked the wait for customs to clear it. Since the adapter is widely available in local stores, I decided to get it from there. The main reason why I bought the Apple TV online was because I had not seen it in local stores at that time. I published a new post about the pros and cons of the Apple online store which you might find interesting. At this time however, I still feel confident to make a purchase in the online Apple store and would definitely do it again in the future. I hope this helps.

      Awesome!! Have fun πŸ™‚

    2. mary says:

I chanced upon this entry online. May i know if you had any problems with customs? Im planning to buy a mac retina (which is not yet available locally)

      1. Lindsey says:

I haven’t experienced any problems with customs. Apple will ship with a credible courier.

  7. daniel says:

hey is it still applicable this year? do they really ship it within 24 hrs specially that it’s xmas season ? :/

    1. Lindsey says:

If the website says they can ship within 24 hours, they will be able to do so. Your only problem lies within customs if they will hold your package for any additional “inspection.”

  8. mil18 says:

    Hi Lindsey,

I’m planning to buy a Macbook Pro, did you buy your items at USA Apples Store, or Philippines Apple Store?

    1. mil18 says:

      sorry, typho-error , USA Apple Store πŸ™‚

and I realized just now, the answer to my question was already indicated at the title πŸ˜€

      nice page, very informative πŸ™‚

  9. Aira says:

Would I be charge for the shipping fee if i buy iPod shuffle only? I can see Fast, free shipping on orders more than 3,000php and then i also see “with free shipping fee” under the price of the iPod shuffle which is 2,690.

    1. Feb says:

      Hi Aira.

Did you proceed to purchase the iPod shuffle? I just did and at the final check out, it says shipping is free. Now I’m anxious if I have to pay custom duties.

  10. Jindeh S. says:

    Hi Lindsey!

Thank you for this informative post.

It made me feel confident to purchase an ipod nano with engraving on the apple online store. πŸ™‚ i keep on checking the my order status as well.

    Thanks!

    More power!

  11. angelo says:

    Hi lindsey!

Thank you for this post, I recently ordered the customized macbook air usually how long does the shipping take place?

    More power!

    1. Lindsey says:

      Hi Angelo,

Apple’s shipping time estimate is more or less correct. You can just use that as your guide πŸ™‚ Have fun with your new Macbook Air!

  12. Ernest says:

I am planning to buy an macbook pro retina but still trying to learn more about store app ph, is this the same site you purchased your products from?

  13. fayem says:

Hi! Thank you for this great review, i just ordered an ipad mini 2 today and your post definitely gave me some relief LOL it is my first time ordering online for an expensive stuff. I decided to buy from the online store because it’s cheaper compared to the local stores nearby. My only problem now is that i am impatient and it says that delivery time is still on November 11, 2014.It’s like 2 weeks from now. Here on your post, it just took a couple of days! >_< do you think it will come sooner than what it says on their site? thank you so much! πŸ˜€

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Faye! So glad I could help! There are certain factors that could affect your slower delivery: stocks and season. Delivery might be slower now since Christmas is drawing near.

  14. ivymae says:

i am just curious….if i order from official PH online apple store do i have to pay customs tax? thanks…

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Ivymae. No need to pay customs tax. Apple covers this and the courier should deliver directly to your door.

  15. Gio says:

Hi! I’m wondering if you still need to pay customs tax or duties as I am planning to buy the new iPhone thru Apple Store Philippines because there are no stocks available right now in the Premium Resellers here.

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Gio! I know what you mean! I just renewed my contract with Smart but I am still waiting to receive my iPhone 6. The model I want is out of stock there too. No need to worry about customs tax. Apple covers this and the courier should be able to deliver straight to your door.

  16. christy anne says:

hi there! I’m wondering if you can buy the iphone 6 thru apple store philippines then ship it to a US add?

    1. Lindsey says:

I haven’t tried anything like that but I recommend buying from the US store instead if you are to ship to the US. Good luck!

  17. julie says:

HI! Pag nag order ba ako sa apple ph ng iphone. My local warranty sya? Na dadalhin ko lng s apple store dito pg my problem, then papaltan nila?

    1. Lindsey says:

Yes, there will always be a one-year warranty on all Apple products. Should there be a problem, you can bring the product to any Authorized Service Center or the official Apple Store in BGC.

  18. Kent says:

Very informative article! Thanks for clearing my doubts. Now I just have to wait for my package to arrive. There were lot of shipment on hold but I think it is understandable due to the holiday season.

    1. Lindsey says:

Good luck and I hope you get it soon!!

  19. Renz Leonor says:

Hi Lindsay! I ordered my EarPods this week, and I’m always checking for my order status which is “processing” do they process orders only on weekdays? Kasi i remember i ordered friday. I get free shipping but worried that the customs would charge me like what my amazon purchase do.

    1. Renz Leonor says:

I ordered saturday pala, not friday.

    2. Lindsey says:

Hi Renz! Yes, I believe they only process orders on weekdays. No need to worry about customs. Apple takes care of that and it should be delivered directly to your doorstep.

      1. Renz Leonor says:

Thank You Lindsey! looking forward for my new ear pods, next next week. thank you for response, your page helps a lot. Happy New Year!

  20. Hannah says:

Hi! Nice site, is it normal na mareceive yung package in 2 weeks? At saan nakikita yung shipment updates? Hindi ko kasi chinecheck sa email ko e.

    Thanks!

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Hannah. Yes I think that’s normal. You should see your shipping updates by logging into Apple’s website with your Apple ID. The email they sent you should have the details on how to do that.

  21. jtabon says:

    Hi Lindsey,

I recently made an online purchase though the Apple Store and it’s been 6 days now and the status is still on hold in SG. Do you have any idea why it’s on hold? I’ll call them today during their business hours.

And also do you know if we can make direct purchases from SG Apple Store online? I can’t seem to find the item from the Philippines Apple Store.

Looking forward for your response πŸ™‚

    Thanks

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi! Not sure why it would be held for that long but it might be a stock issue. You can call them with any PLDT/Smart/Globe phone for free.

Haven’t tried buying from a different store and I’m not too optimistic that it would work. Let me know if you do decide try to buy from the SG store!

  22. Genesis says:

Hi Lindsey! I just want to ask. I was planning to buy an iphone 6 plus to apple store PH. But will it be fine if i the shipping address will be different to my card’s billing address? And if the recipient is not me? Will be giving it as a surprise gift to my girlfriend. Will it be fine? And does my credit card company will call me to confirm my purchase? Thanks

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Genesis! Super sweet! I believe it would be ok to specify a different shipping address and I think that’s perfectly normal. Your credit card company may contact you to confirm the purchase if it is a large amount but that will be completely up to them. Best of luck!

  23. Madz says:

Hi, I just would like to ask if they give you official receipt for the purchase? Thanks

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Madz! I don’t quite remember since it’s been a while. I don’t remember seeing an official receipt but there may have been something like a delivery receipt/sales invoice. You should also be getting an order confirmation via email.

  24. Jp says:

Good evening for the late inquiry! I’ve read the comments above and they’re saying that there is no additional charges beside the charges made by apple (tax from customs and stuff.)? Will just confirm, planning to order a macbook retina display with customized specs asap. Thanks!

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi, Jp! Yes, as long as it says that customs tax is covered (I remember it usually says this either while you’re buying the product or during checkout), you’re good to go. Let me know how it goes πŸ™‚

  25. Jp says:

Okay thanks! Will update you asap! πŸ˜€

  26. krazelle says:

Hi good evening! I’m wondering is DHL tracking not updated? I ordered an iMac last Tuesday May 12 and it has been shipped however everytime I checked the waybill provided it only says “picked up”. I’m getting worried na kasi sa blog mo and reading from the comments the items arrives from 7-10 days lg. Hope you can help.

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Krazelle. Sorry to hear that it is taking longer for you. Service might have changed or it takes longer for bigger items such as an iMac. I hope your item reached you shortly after πŸ™‚

  27. asuka says:

Hi, Regarding sa payment method, pwede po kayang gumamit ng ePrepaid Cards like BPI ePrepaid MasterCard?. Please advise. Salamat po πŸ™‚

    1. Lindsey says:

I’m pretty sure that you can use your prepaid credit card since it works just like a normal credit card. Just be sure you have sufficient funds in the card before you make a purchase. Best of luck!

  28. asuka says:

Regarding payment method. Can I use BPI ePrepaid MasterCard?

  29. Chris says:

Hello, I’m planning to buy an iPhone 5S 32gb on the Apple online store via credit card but I’m wondering how you’ll get charged once the payment has been approved? Or will they charge you the full amount the follwing month or upon check-out you’ll have the option to be charged 6 or 12 months option?

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Chris! You will definitely be charged the full amount upon purchase. The online Apple Store for the Philippines does not have financing yet.

  30. Bianca says:

    Hi, Lindsey

I am planning to buy a Macbook Pro 2015 15 in top of the line. Is there a 12 months to pay option for it in the Apple Store Ph? Thank you πŸ™‚

    1. Bianca says:

Edit: I already called Apple about this but their sales people for the Ph site are not available. So, I would like to confirm whether there is a 12 month to pay option for the Macbook Pro 2015 15 inch top of the the line. Thanks in advance.

    2. Lindsey says:

Hi Bianca! Our online Apple Store currently does not have financing. I do hope that they will consider adding that in the future. Best of luck!

  31. ikay0920 says:

Hi, Lindsey! Thanks for this informative post. I just ordered an Apple iPhone 6s now and it says that it will be delivered a month from now. I don’t know why it would take that long? Do you know the number that I can call?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi! The only reason I can think of is a customs related issue. I hope you were able to receive your Apple iPhone 6s already! πŸ™‚

  32. Kai says:

You guys are luck to have a hassle-free experience with the apple online store. I tried to buy an Apple Watch last April6 and I thought I’d have it by 13 but when I checked the tracking number (DHL) it said that my watch is stuck at the Singapore customs. I tried to contact DHL because I thought that the problem was with them but they explained to me that Apple still hasn’t gave them the NTC permit to clear my watch. I tried contacting Apple using their customer support but I guess Globe users cant contact them so I had to try to call their technical support to connect me to the sales support.. anyway, they told me that they would just file for a refund and once they receive the watch they’d give me a refund. It’s been 2 weeks since the “refund” but they keep on telling me that they haven’t received the watch yet so they cant issue the refund.

I tried to ask DHL again why if they could just return the watch to the sender so I’ll receive my refund but they still needed the authorization from Apple to release it.

An apple watch doesn’t cost cheap that’s why I’m actually getting a little bit mad at apple for they’re lack of response. :((

    1. Lindsey says:

That sounds terrible!! Not sure why it could get stuck at Singapore customs. Have you spoken to apple since? Any updates on this?

      1. Kai says:

I just called Apple again and thankfully I talked to a more informative customer support and this time she explained the step-by-step process of what happened. Apparently my watch is already in the Philippine customs (but the DHL site was still not updated) and apple is just waiting for them to release my watch so it can be returned to Singapore–which will take 3-5 days and then refund to the bank would be initiated for another 3-5 days…

I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid or just plain malas but since this was my first time buying from the apple online store, I wanted it to be hassle-free >.< Hopefully after a week or two my case would be closed πŸ™

        1. Janzukato says:

Hi i also ordered the apple watch series 2. Did they charge you an additional 1%? It was reflected on my credit card billing. I’m still waiting for my order to arrive.

          1. Loaditup says:

Hi, have you gotten your ordered Apple Watch Series 2 already? I, too, ordered on Apple H Online store. At first, I thought the stocks of the Apple products being offered on the Apple PH Online store will be coming from the like of Power Ma, Beyond the Box, FutureWorld (Apple Premium Resellers). But I came to this article and reddit about the experience of ordering it online, wherein the product you bought on Apple PH Online store will be really coming from overseas specifically from U.S., right? Now, that’s why the delivery date will really take long. I hope there will be no other problem on my order unlike others’ inconvenient experiences on ordering in Apple PH Online store

  33. Kurt Zubieta says:

hello lindsay. i’ve ordered a magsafe to magsafe2 converter. it’s still in dhl. it cost 550php. does dhl charge me?

  34. Kurt Zubieta says:

i mean, will DHL charge mo for addition fees like taxes or storage service?

    1. Lindsey says:

Be sure to check your order with Apple. Most likely all taxes have been taken care of already.

  35. Hi Lindsay, I ordered the New MacBook 12 inch and it’s indicated that the shipment will be 4 to 6 weeks and the delivery is from Oct. 10 – Nov. 03. What to expect?

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Jevi! I hope you were able to get your MacBook on time

  36. Loaditup says:

Hi ms. Lindsey, I just wanna know how long did you get your ordered item/s in your home since you placed your order on Apple PH Online store(total number of days since you placed your order??

I ordered and Apple Watch about 3 days ago and my order is still being processed. It says shipment will take 3-5 days. It this the same experience you had in your end? Please reply, thanks.

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi there! Apple’s estimates are usually accurate when there are no special events (like the Christmas season). There might be a chance where you have to wait a few extra days because our own Customs can take time in clearing your package. Be sure to track your package with the link they sent you and you can also follow up with Apple/DHL by phone if you have any issues. Good luck!

  37. I inquire to Powermac and Beyond the box, They said It’ll took 5~8 weeks to process my order, whew! that is frustrating, So I thought maybe I will just order my item directly from the website.. they say it’ll took 7 days only, is that true???

    1. Lindsey says:

Hi Rigel, what are you looking to order?

  38. Tiff says:

I’m planning to get a MagSafe online as it’s the cheapest I found (more than a thousand pesos difference) but estimated delivery date would be 2 weeks so I’m holding off buying one. Have you experienced getting your orders earlier than the estimated date?

    1. Lindsey says:

I don’t think I’ve experienced getting my orders earlier than expected. It’s safe say that their estimate is more or less the date when it will be delivered.

    2. james says:

i’ve ordered magsafe last sept 10, 2017 and today it was released by customs. ETA is tomorrow, hope to receive it here in laguna by tomorrow.

  39. Rhodaru says:

I just want to ask what did you put in the area code? The area code in the Philippines in +63 but I can’t add a plus sign when filling out, also, the space is not enough for my number

    1. Lindsey says:

Have you tried without the +? That shouldn’t be any trouble if you leave that character out.

  40. Mr. Woo says:

    Hi there!

Just having a thought that the item I ordered might get lost along the way (customs issues) makes me cringe. (Ang mahal kaya ng AIRPODS tapos mawawala lang. LOL). So before doing my first official international online shopping, I tried to look for some reviews like this. I googled and I stumbled upon your blog (thankfully! great review btw!).

You see, I’m getting impatient of waiting for the Apple Airpods to be available at the local Apple Resellers here in the PH. So I’ve decided to order thru the Apple Online Store.

    Questions:

    – Do you have any idea if the shipping company used by Apple is still DHL?
    – Is the delivery door to door?
    – Do they charge your credit card instantly? (like even when you still don’t have the item they charge it ASAP?)

    Thank you so much!

    1. Alexa says:

hi mr woo, i ordered mine last may 17, since airpods takes 6 weeks to be shipped, apple gave an estimate date (july 12) delivery, and last friday (june23) i recieved a text message from apple that my order has been shipped and expected to be delivered on july 7, usually they dont deduct credits to ur credit card until the items are ready to ship or onhand. Their courier is still DHL if i were u should order as early as possible because it takes a long time really, beyond the box and powermac dont have stocks and i always ask if they will restock airpods they just dont know and they dont have any memo from their management, so i guess they will never restock it anytime soon, last late feb powermac has stocks but i cant believe that all the branches (powermac) received 3 pair each lol.

      1. Mr. Woo says:

thanks for the info.I placed my order yesterday and apple said that my order will arrive on August.

about the contact number you entered on the delivery details, did it started with 0917*******? I cant seem to enter the +63.

        1. Alexa says:

i remember putting my land line number and cell-phone number entered country code- 63, apple will call u for comfirmation of details and also billing, so dont worry about it too much, u can correct everything later.

        2. Alexa says:

i got mine today wow, they are really beautiful
